field... paddi... and its pests and diseases
Recently, mostly farmers, possibility all Java regions and which i have
seen in East Lampung, were confused by the phenomenon of plant hopper outbreak
(Nilaparvata lugens). Some incidents
seemed hopper burn-rice like burnt-, tungro virus infection, and emotionally
they burnt all the infected rice field for some areas with very hard damage.
Their scream louds up..
Either within their hearts or their mouth..
What most effective poison (pesticide), wherever, though it’s expensive,
they must look for. What a hell for its active ingrediens, crop suitability,
the more effective poison according to the friends, the more suitable poison to
the choice.
There are farmers who still try control by spraying an harzardous poison,
and some let their crop ended by those plant hopper.
In my mind, “poison is poison”
At least i have watched by my own eyes how their feeling at a village in
East Lampung. They told me more and more, about their problems, they (felt)
have done all the procedures of cultivation guide in the same manner as farmer
guide said (penyuluh). They also said that they have understod where is pest
and where is natural enemy. However in the reality the pest disaster is still
coming.
They really tell me more and more, they try to put their hope to me, by
full expectation, with whispering thir slow voice : is there the most efective
“poison” which can answer that problems?
Wehereas as long as i studied in the Campus, i never heard my lecturers
explained about what efective poison that can dissipate those pest from the
world.
That’s really complex, there are manythings which influenced thats
happen. In the same condition, Plant Protection alumnus and Pest-disease
observer (POPT) is claimed same as firefighter, informed when the fire has
attacked. Whereas, to save our house from fire needs a strategy called
prevention. Keeping the house from the fire is not mean that we should alert an
enough water, but from the beginning, by strategies, like setting electrical
instalation, avoiding combustible material, and many recommended manners.
Becouse, there is a natural mechanism in nature that’s called food chain.
Every individu of animal is accompanied by its natural enemy. If they are
intervenced by a poison, we kill not only the target animal (pests).
That’s agroecosistem management.
Truelly, provisions for diagnosting pest and disease incident i obtaied from
the campus are enough to be developed, particularly to cammon problem like
this. According to me, it’s not really difficult. But, that become very
challenge is how we serve a recommendation/prescription to the farmers about
controlling the pest which is suitable with what their wants.
We have to know that they always want an easy, quick, and direct
solution, and finally all pests die.
If we can’t give the recommendation
which is not as they wants, the farmers will claim that we don’t bring the
solution. They will prefer to heard poison sales man who always become like the
angle who will help them. Whereas, we mean not like that, like a long story
that we have just started to tell, and its slow. A mecanism of agroecosistem
management.
Willy nilly, proposing our aims to direct on good agroecosystem management
by reducing pesticide usage, wise its application considering IPM principles,
beated by other unresponsible solutions spreading among them.
They asked about what effective poison, what trad-mark it is. In the
other side chemical pesticides prpmotion is rise up.
Mostly farmers have known that some of the poisons could resistence to
pest offsprings.
But we don’t do more
“the more important is that my crop can be safe, and i can live”,
therefore, we just wait for the bad news willing to come somedays later.
We should aware about their fate, they need our hand.
Perhaps they are natural degradator, but don’t forget about their
service, becouse they are the hero, or they may be the policy victim. Without
them, we don’t have any meal, no energy, no technology, no communication, then
no life.
The Farmers
these State fighters become harder
need patient guides who can guide them
go forward better.
Still a piece of optimistic on their
mind, our head, and our goverment.
Be patient and slowly to be server of
them, it’s our task
